Farah and her hus-bun, Tiki, love food. And we mean LOVE. When you walk past their pen in our Adoption Barn, they jump around to get your attention, hoping you brought them a treat. So, it makes sense that when the bunnies need groceries, they look to Farah to do the shopping. (They can’t send Tiki, or he’d come back with nothing but bananas!)
But Farah needs your help. You see, it costs about $25 for a shopping cart’s worth of food. That’s enough to feed about 20 of our bunnies for a week.
What’s in the cart, you wonder? Mostly it’s filled with nutritious Timothy hay and fresh greens like parsley, romaine lettuce, and dandelion greens. To make sure the rabbits are getting all the nutrients they need, there’s also a small amount of Timothy pellets. And of course, we couldn’t get away without a few treats like carrots and bananas!
Most of the rabbits in our care have been abandoned, abused, or neglected, and have gone through periods in their lives when they did not have enough to eat. When they came to Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary, they learned that they will never again have to worry about where their next meal will come from. But we can’t do it without you! While we focus on helping these bunnies find a family who will love them forever, YOU can help make sure they have plenty of nutritious food to eat.
